About my writing: Why romance? And what is that, anyway? Remember reading under the covers with a flashlight when you were a child, simply because you couldn't wait to find out what happened next? Those books were almost always stories driven primarily by imagination (as was almost all literature before the twentieth century). Tales of self-discovery through adventure, where justice triumphs over all odds and true love is the reward. Simply put, that's romance! The most important ingredient in my historical novels is always a to-die-for hero and his passionate romance with an interesting heroine. A fantasy? You bet! But, as you might have guessed by now, though written primarily to entertain, these are not simplistic stories. My novels are often described with words like intelligent, passionate, sexy, and sophisticated, but theyre also rich in humor and intrigue. I like to involve my characters in situations of real danger and high emotional stakes, where they're forced to grow and change. (So, though I promise to keep you turning the pages, you wont find an extremely light read to skim through in an hour!) My books also tend to echo some of the myth and history that I absorbed in my childhood in Britain. I love languagejust the rhythm and sweep of itand stories where love triumphs over adversity, and good wins the day. Above all my goal as a romance writer is to have glorious funyet also to create a novel with enough depth to be worth reading over and over again. It's the hardest work I've ever done in my life, but when you tell me that I've moved, pleased, thrilled, or entertained you, it's all worthwhile! And my most recent publishing history: Beginning with The Seduction in June 2002, Berkley began releasing my novels in gorgeous trade paperback editions. (The Seduction flew off shelves, was rushed back to press for a sold-out second printing, then was reissued in mass-market size in March 2004.) The Wicked Lover followed in trade paperback in February 2004, and was reissued in a mass market edition in January 2005. Set in the flamboyant world of Georgian England in the 1760's, The Wicked Lover is linked to The Seduction. Though each story stands alone, readers who prefer to read linked books in order should read The Seduction first. The Wyldshay trilogy follows, set in late Regency England, where you'll meet the dashing sons of the Duke of Blackdown of Wyldshay Castle in Dorset, and their cousin Guy Devoran. The trilogy began with Wild Lord Jack's story in Night of Sin in January 2005. (Night of Sin is set in May and June, 1828.) Ryder's story, Games of Pleasure, was first released in trade paperback in November 2005 and was reissued in a mass market edition in April 2007. Guy's book, Clandestine, hit shelves in trade paperback in November 2006 and again in a mass market edition in November 2007. Once again, you may read the books in any order, if you wish! Thank you, readers!
